It helps to know what happens on the other side of the lock. When you apply to a project and complete the steps, your application doesn't disappear into a machine. It goes to a real recruiter, whose job is to match people to a limited number of openings, and they do that by reading your profile. Your key is, quite literally, how visible you are to that process.

We asked our global recruiter, Zorana Raseta, what she is actually looking at when an application lands on her desk.

"When you finish your certification and sign the SOW, the next step is to be reviewed by the recruiters. We look at your CV, your experience, your skills, your interests, even your hobbies. Your language knowledge is everything."

Notice how much of that comes straight from your profile. The recruiter isn't guessing at who you are. They are working from what you gave them, which means a fuller, sharper profile is a fuller, sharper picture of the expert they're deciding to bring on.

Every Detail Is Making Your Key Stronger

So what actually strengthens the key?

A current CV shows the depth of your experience. Your listed skills and interests are what the matching system uses to surface the right work for you, so if you have a background in a field, or a genuine interest in one, it belongs on your profile. Languages matter enormously: if you translate between Italian and English, that has to be on your account, or translation projects will never find you. Education, completed certifications, and the areas you've chosen to explore all add definition. Even a certification score can tip a close decision.

"We also check your certification score sometimes, and that can make a slight difference. In the end, we make our decision based on the information you've put in front of us."

That last line is the whole point. The decision is made from what you provide. A profile with more real, relevant detail simply gives the recruiter more reasons to say yes.

A Half-Finished Key Opens Nothing

If we are being honest... this is where most people in their first week quietly lose ground, and it is entirely avoidable. They start strong, then leave the profile half-developed.

"The most common mistake is not completing the account, and not finishing the certification. People apply, they start the certification, and then they just stop there."

A thin or unfinished profile doesn't get rejected in some dramatic way. Something quieter happens: it never gets surfaced for the opportunities that would suit you best. The doors are there, but a half-finished key can't reach them. Completing your account and finishing your certifications isn't busywork, but the difference between a key that opens something and one that just sits in your pocket!

The Project Has Limited Slots

We will be very direct to you because you deserve the real picture. A strong key improves your odds. It does not guarantee a given project, and that's not a flaw in your key. It's the nature of the project.

"We have limited spots. I would love to give everyone a project and work with everybody, but that's just not possible."

There are almost always more qualified experts than there are openings, so even a great application sometimes doesn't land a particular project. Two things are within your control here, and both matter. First, speed: openings can fill quickly, so once something interests you, apply and move through your certification and SOW without leaving them for the weekend. Zorana's benchmark is worth remembering: apply on a Monday, finish everything, and you can be endorsed by Tuesday or Wednesday, roughly three business days. Second, once you're endorsed, watch your email, because project managers reach out there with your next steps, and a missed message can mean a missed project.
